Der zeitreisende Ausserirdische Doctor Who reist durch Raum und Zeit in seinem TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space) Raumschiff, das von außen einer Telefonzelle ähnelt, aber von innen ein hypermodernes Zeitraumschiff ist. Immer wieder erlebt er mit seinen irdischen Gefährten Abenteuer und muss (natürlich gewaltfrei) gegen die bösen Daleks, Cybermen oder andere Zeitreisende wie den Master kämpfen. Doch wenn er mal verliert und stirbt, kann er sich regenerieren, wobei die neue Regeneration einen völlig unterschiedlichen Charakter aufweisen kann, im Vergleich zu der letzten. Leider kann es so nicht ewig weitergehen, da der gute Doc mit dem Fragezeichen auf seiner Visitenkarte, nur eine bestimmte Anzahl von Regenerationen zur Verfügung hat...

Die ersten beiden neuen Folgen mit Peter Capaldi haben mir gefallen - aber man merkt auch, dass er wieder ein ganz anderer Typ ist...es ist etwas ernster geworden, wie man auch irgendwie schon am Intro merkt. Besonders die zweite Folge "Into the Dalek" fand ich wirklich spannend...erinnerte etwas an die Filme "Die phanatastische Reise" von 1966 mit Raquel Welch oder "Die Reise ins Ich" von 1986 mit Dennis Quaid :)

War es denn von Anfang an beabsichtigt, den Doctor regenerieren zu lassen oder kam man erst auf die Idee, weil der erste / die ersten Darsteller dann keine Lust mehr hatten?
William Hartnell, der Dartseller des ersten Doctors, konnte aufgrund seines Gesundheitszustands die Serie nicht mehr weiter drehen. Daher dann die Idee mit der Regeneration ;)
Wobei Hartnell, als er die Rolle angenommen hatte, ja schon klar war, dass er sie nur bedingt lange spielen konnte, da er ja schon im "fortgeschrittenen Alter" war. man hatte wohl icht gedacht, wie erfolgreich die Serie werden würde, man ging wohl nur von 2-3 Staffeln oder so aus.
