I seem to be on a Blog. I'm not exactly sure what a Blog is. But, I'm
told it can be a vehicle for interaction with readers -- so, if you
have any questions you'd like to ask me (or praise you'd like to
heap) fire away.
Ah, that's what a Blog is. I'm a bit overwhelmed. My current plan is
to post here on a regular schedule (to be determined) and to
periodically answer the questions that have come since I answered the
last batch.
I have noticed recently that "blog" is not unlike "blah": Blog, blog?
Blah, blah? . . . Anyway. There have been questions about literary
influence.
I am in favor of full equality for everyone, and opposed to "isms".
Mostly I think about sex and baseball. . . .
Witzig.... sigh
I began blogging now because my publisher asked me to. . . .
Guter Witz.
I don't read reviews. Hemingway said "once if you believe the good
stuff they say about you, you have to believe the bad". I hate the
bad. I'm doing the best I can. So, I don't read about myself at all
(reviews, magazine features, video tapes of me on the tube, nothing).
Joan kweps track for me, just to be sure we're not missing
anything. . .
There really is no "easy" or "hard" in managing point of view between
first and third person. The most difficult narrative technique I ever
undertook was in "All Our Yesterdays", which required me to manage
time via point of view as well. Read it, you'll see. . . . How do
I keep characters straight, biographical details and such? A lot of
it I remember. What I don't remember I go back to the book(s) they
were in and look. . . .
The frequency of neurotic suburban housewives in my books could stem
from several sources: simple observation? deep unconsicous antipathy
toward suburbanites, or housewives, or both? or the fact that well
integrated suburban housewives are of less interest to a detective
and offer far fewer plot options. You write several books a year, you
like plot options.
